The Power Plant CrossFit Story

Brian and Katie started training in CrossFit when the sport was still in its infancy. Brian started in 2007 at one of the first boxes (the fancy CrossFit word for “gyms”) in the country, and Katie started in 2010 at one of the first boxes in Delaware. They learned the major lifts – deadlift, squat, press, clean & jerk, and snatch – and the basics of bodyweight movement – pull-ups, dips, push-ups, rope climbs, and sit-ups. CrossFit programming was built on pairing the above standard movements together in constantly varied rep schemes, combinations, and patterns. Your heart rate goes up. You lift heavy. You work as hard as you can for a relatively short amount of time. You get results. Simple.

As CrossFit’s popularity has grown exponentially, the dynamics of the sport have changed. It got a reputation for being “hard core,” gritty, and full of (what we like to call) “circus tricks.” At Power Plant Gym, we set out to create a program that brings CrossFit back to its roots.

Power Plant CrossFit is based on these core beliefs:

  • “Hard core” and “hard” are not the same thing. You can achieve fitness responsibly and effectively without going to extremes.
  • You can compete at a high level with these abilities… or you can simply live every day moving and feeling better. Both are equally valid pursuits and one will never take precedence over the other.
  • CrossFit takes all types – moms and dads, kids and adults, pros and beginners. Every workout we do at Power Plant CrossFit is scalable – up or down – to every athlete.
  • We are a community, and we are here to help each other push past our boundaries and succeed together.

No matter where you are in your strength and fitness journey, we will meet you there. It will be hard. You will be challenged. Sometimes you will want to quit. But you will get better, and you will see results. Above all else, we believe in this process, and our whole community is here to help you succeed.

We encourage you to try one of our CrossFit workouts for free to see how our classes are structured. For a more in-depth experience, we have a 2-week trial membership for $20 with no obligation. Just come in for 2 weeks, meet our coaches, take our classes, hang out with our members, and see what the Power Plant community is all about and what we can do for you.

Any questions? Just drop us an email or drop by the gym and any of our coaches will be happy to talk with you and show you around.
